U.S. President Donald Trump claimed he faced «three very sinister events» during his visit to the U.N. General Assembly, asserting that the Secret Service will review the incidents, according to the Associated Press.

Delivering his speech at the U.N., Trump lashed out at the U.N., European allies and their immigration policies, also pointing to a series of mishaps he called «triple sabotage.» First, Trump claimed an escalator carrying him and his team «screeched to a halt,» accusing unnamed individuals of deliberate interference. In response, U.N. spokesman Stéphane Dujarric said a U.S. delegation videographer may have accidentally triggered the stop mechanism.

In addition to the escalator incident, Trump stated that his teleprompter failed during his address. However, according to a U.N. official, the White House had managed the operation of the teleprompter for the president. Trump further claimed that the sound system malfunctioned, making his remarks difficult to hear without the use of interpreter earpieces, and said that Melania Trump confirmed this sound issue, the Associated Press reported

Following these incidents, he requested that the U.N. retain the security footage of the escalator incident and called for an investigation. In response, U.N. staff said that escalator stoppages occur frequently and explained that they have recently been implemented to save money due to budget shortfalls, which they attributed in part to delayed U.S. contributions.
