Kazakhstan is going to cut as much public expenditures as possible to save money for dealing with the massive floods. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has already promised to introduce a cost-saving regime for public expenditures, reassuring those affected by the floods that authorities will reimburse all the damage.
Tokayev spoke on the topic during the 33rd session of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan called «Unity. Creation. Progress.» As the president reported, the restoration of residential houses and infrastructure in areas affected by the floods has already begun.
«Prominent entrepreneurs and public figures have also supported this work. Kazakhstani companies and businessmen have donated significant sums of money to various relief foundations. I think the total sum of donations will be higher than it is now. I am very grateful to the entrepreneurs. I have no doubts that we will continue to cooperate for the good of the people,» Tokayev said during his speech at the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan.
The president promised that all collected funds would be allocated for the relief of those affected by floods and the restoration of settlements.
«The government will reimburse the damage to all affected by the floods, no one will be left without public support. We are going to cut public expenditures to save money for dealing with the consequences of the floods. We will introduce a cost-saving regime for budget spending. I understand that it is very hard to lose everything you’ve worked for all your life. Again. I’d like to tell all my fellow citizens affected by the floods: all our people are behind you. The government will do everything necessary to help you get back to normal life,» Tokayev said.
The context. In March, several regions of Kazakhstan were hit by massive floods. As a result, they have declared a state of emergency.
In his address to the nation, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev described the floods as the most powerful disaster over the past 80 years. He promised to provide financial and other support to all people affected by the floods.
The Ministry of Agriculture also said that Kazakhstanis can apply for reimbursement if they lost livestock during the floods.
The Ministry of Industry has developed two designs of houses for those Kazakhstanis who lost their homes because of the floods. These are three-room and two-room houses with floor-size from 80 to 160 square meters.
Moreover, people can apply for an evaluation of their damage through the eGov Mobile app. The government will compensate all the damages to those affected by the floods. For instance, people will receive up to $1,247 for purchasing new furniture, home appliances and dishes.
