KMG CEO Magzum Mirzagaliyev resigns from office

According to Samruk Kazyna Chair Nurlan Zhakupov, CEO of the KazMunayGas (KMG) national oil company Magzum Mirzagaliyev has resigned from office.

The company also reported that the company is currently headed by Askhat Khasenov, a former vice energy minister who will remain KMG’s acting CEO until the shareholders’ general meeting.

The head of the holding thanked Mirzagaliyev for his work as the head of the oil company.

Mirzagaliyev was appointed the chair of the company by Samruk Kazyna’s board in April 2022. He’s been in charge of the oil company for more than two years.

Over his career, Mirzagaliyev served as vice minister of oil and gas, vice minister of energy, minister of ecology, geology and natural resources, minister of energy and adviser to the president of Kazakhstan. Khasanov’s career started in 2005 when he joined Turgai Petroleum as the third-grade operator in the oil and gas production department. From January 2022 to May 2024, he served as a vice minister of energy.
