China urges reopening of Strait of Hormuz, supports US-Iran talks

China has called for the Strait of Hormuz to be reopened as soon as possible during talks between Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araqchi in Beijing, the BBC reported.
During the meeting — Araqchi’s first visit to China since the start of the Iran war — Wang emphasized that securing a lasting ceasefire remains an urgent priority and said Beijing is ready to support efforts to reduce tensions. He also stressed the need to restore safe and normal navigation through the strategically important waterway.
The Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil transit route, has become largely impassable since the conflict escalated, following blockades imposed by both Iran and the U.S. China has repeatedly urged continued dialogue between Washington and Tehran, maintaining a de-escalation-focused stance while avoiding direct involvement in the conflict.
The talks come ahead of a planned meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping, where the conflict and the situation in the strait are expected to be discussed.
