Auction house Giquello is set to auction the world’s first bag made from recreated Tyrannosaurus rex skin during its Tentation°4 sale at the Hotel Drouot in Paris.

According to the hotel’s website, the predator’s skin was grown in a laboratory. The bag is the result of years of research. First, scientists recreated the DNA of the predator made famous by the Jurassic Park film series. They then grew skin from this DNA in a laboratory and used it to create the bag. The item is expected to sell for between €300,000 and €500,000.

The bag is set to become one of the most unique lots ever offered at auction.

«As a specialist accustomed to working daily with dinosaurs and their fossil remains, I could never have imagined one day being able, in a sense, to touch their skin. This piece represents a striking dialogue between the prehistory we study and the possibilities opened up by contemporary science,» said renowned Italian paleontologist Iacopo Briano.

The unusual lot offers a new perspective on luxury leather goods. Owning a prestigious designer handbag may no longer require the killing of animals such as crocodiles.

In a separate case, another unusual lot was presented at auction. Medical images belonging to Marilyn Monroe were put up for sale and were expected to fetch thousands of dollars.
