Meat prices in Kazakhstan skyrocket by 28.6%

Meat and poultry prices rose 17.6% over the past year, making them the largest contributor to food inflation in Kazakhstan. Lamb, beef, and ground meat also remained the biggest drivers of price increases among socially important food products.

Overall, meat and poultry accounted for the largest share of inflation across all categories of goods and services, contributing 1.555 percentage points to the overall inflation rate of 10.3%.

According to price statistics for socially important food products, meat ranked among the fastest-growing categories over the past year:

  • Lamb, including boneless cuts: up 28.6%.
  • Bone-in beef: up 17.8%.
  • Boneless beef: up 17.5%.
  • Ground meat: up 16.4%.
  • Chicken parts (thighs, drumsticks and leg quarters): up 15.6%.

Eggs were the next fastest-rising animal product, with prices increasing 15.4% over the past year. Horse meat followed closely, rising 15.1% since June 2025.

By comparison, whole chickens recorded a more moderate annual price increase of 12.1%.
