According to the official «Naruto» and «Boruto» website, the studio is stepping up pre-production on its live-action adaptation and, together with the film’s director, Destin Daniel Cretton, well-known for «Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,» has announced the launch of a global casting search.

The filmmakers are searching for actors to portray the three lead characters — Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha and Sakura Haruno, members of Team 7. Candidates from around the world can apply.

«Kishimoto-sensei’s stories have inspired generations of fans around the globe, and it’s an honor to bring his world and characters to the big screen in live action for the very first time. I’m thrilled to kick off this worldwide casting search for our Team 7 and to bring the incredible universe of NARUTO to life,» Cretton wrote on social media.

Cretton is also serving as the film’s writer, while Avi Arad, Ari Arad and the team at Arad Productions are producing the project.

First published in 1999, «Naruto» quickly became a global phenomenon. The manga later spawned an anime series, feature films, video games and a wide range of licensed products. More than 250 million copies of the manga have been sold in over 60 countries.

The film’s release date has not yet been announced. However, the launch of a global casting search indicates that the project has entered an active stage of pre-production. According to rumors, filming could begin soon, with the film potentially reaching theaters in 2027 or 2028.
