On July 19, Ricky Martin attended the Almaty Museum of Arts after performing his concert in the city. Kursiv LifeStyle explores which works impressed the singer the most.
The Puerto Rican performer received a private guided tour and left a note of thanks in the museum’s guest book.
The museum’s press service told Kursiv LifeStyle that Martin was most impressed by Richard Serra’s «Junction» sculpture and installation «Love is Calling» by Yayoi Kusama.
These were the same artworks the singer shared on Instagram. He also posted a photo on Instagram Stories of himself sitting in front of Anselm Kiefer‘s installation «Questi scritti, quando verranno bruciati, daranno finalmente un po’ di luce (These Writings, When Burned, Will Finally Cast a Little Light).»
“When we entered the Serra hall and began walking through the sculpture, as we usually do on our tours, Ricky was bursting with emotion! He admired it, was delighted and photographed every corner,” tour guide Aidyn Batyrbay said.
Notably, it took around three months to transport «Junction,» made of steel sheets and weighing 155 tons, from the U.S. to Almaty. The final hurdle came on Nazarbayev Ave, near the museum.
The «Love Is Calling» installation is a dark mirrored room filled with glowing, polka-dotted, tentacle-like inflatable sculptures. It also features an audio recording of Kusama reading her love poem in Japanese.
Ricky Martin performed at Almaty’s Spartak Stadium on July 18. The special guest was Australian singer Natalie Imbruglia, best known for her hit “Torn.”
