According to Cyril Muller, World Bank’s Vice President for Europe and Central Asia, his organization is going to facilitate Uzbekistan in implementing anti-crisis measures and provide the country with additional support. The WB official made this statement when met with SardorUmurzakov, Uzbekistani Minister of Investments and External Trade.

During their meeting, the two sides discussed optimal ways to fund Uzbekistani health and social security systems with $1.2 billion. All that money will be given, apart from $700 million which World Bank had already approved for Uzbekistan to upgrade its utility infrastructure as well as to fund agricultural programs.

In addition, Cyril Muller and Sardor Umurzakov shared their opinions about how the Uzbekistani government and World Bank can cooperate to defend locals from the spread of new coronavirus.

Earlier, World Bank announced that it would help various countries to fight COVID-19 and provide them with $14 billion in total. Moreover, World Bank plans to allocate roughly $160 billion in 15 months to support local businesses and the most vulnerable populations around the globe.
