Ukraine Has Left the CIS Air Agreement
President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed an edict on the withdrawal of Ukraine from two agreements with CIS countries.
According to the president’s edict, Ukraine has withdrawn itself from the Agreement on Civilian Aviation and Use of Air Space signed on December 25, 1991, in Minsk by Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Ukraine. All these states have agreed to consider their national air space as a united space. They have also created the Council on Aviation and Air Space as well as International Aviation Committee.
Moreover, the same document has also required Ukraine to quit the Air Space Agreement that was signed on May 15, 1992, in Tashkent. Under this agreement, member states must allow militaries from other parties of the agreement to use their air space and accept such actions from other members.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is going to send an official notice to the Council on Aviation and Air Space about the decision.
In another move, the government of Ukraine announced that it will think about the sanctions it may impose against thirteen Russian airlines. However, these measures will first be discussed at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
