Kazakhstan wants to boost its natural gas production
The Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan in conjunction with QazaqGaz, the national gas company in Kazakhstan, has prepared a forecast balance of gas until 2030. According to this plan, gas production this year is expected to reach 60.5 billion cubic meters of gas, which is a 2.4% increase over last year (59.1 billion cubic meters), according to the Ministry of Energy.
In 2023, the Tengiz oil and gas field produced 16 billion cubic meters of gas (27.1%), Karachaganak – 22 billion cubic meters (37.3%), Kashagan – 11.8 billion cubic meters (20%) and other gas fields – 8.8 billion cubic meters of gas (14.9%).
The Energy Ministry hails the rapid development of the gas industry, citing an increase in gas production in the country. This year, the agency expects that the production of commercial-grade gas will reach 28 billion cubic meters. At the same time, according to the forecast balance of gas, the current domestic consumption of gas is 20.9 billion cubic meters.
On April 18, 2024, some media outlets reported that starting from January, Kazakhstan received 500 million cubic meters of gas from Russia, which began exporting its gas to Kazakhstan in October 2023. Russian President Vladimir Putin promised that Russia would export three million cubic meters of gas and even more than that to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
