Kazakhtelecom intensifies collaboration with Telegram
According to Bagdat Musin, CEO of Kazakhtelecom, the communication operator and Telegram have agreed to exchange traffic directly without using transit operators. Musin believes that this move will allow Kazakhstanis to share information on Telegram more quickly.
The official revealed that he met with Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, and negotiated with him to facilitate direct traffic exchange without intermediate operators.
«My colleagues have completed the necessary work in conjunction with Telegram specialists and have established a direct physical connection with Telegram’s network to accelerate data exchange without intermediate operators. We currently receive 19 gigabits per second from Telegram, a rate that is expected to increase in the future. What is really important is that we control all the traffic! And we have enough capacity because the connection speed is 100 gigabits per second,» he wrote on Instagram.
Musin also pointed out that the arrangement will enable Kazakhstanis to access content and share information via Telegram much faster.
According to the CEO of Kazakhtelecom, more than eight million people in Kazakhstan use Telegram. In 2023, the messenger app was the most frequently downloaded in the country.
In June 2024, Pavel Durov visited three countries in Central Asia. On June 13, he was spotted at Issyk-Kul Lake in Kyrgyzstan; on June 24, he visited Tashkent; and on June 27, he was in Astana.
The founder of Telegram came to Kazakhstan at the invitation of Digital Minister Zhaslan Madiyev, who showed the Ministry of Digital Development, the AIFC and several other organizations in Kazakhstan to the foreign guest.
