International Canine Federation to recognize Kazakh Tazy breed

The International Canine Federation (FCI) has officially recognized the Kazakh Tazy as a distinct breed and confirmed Kazakhstan as the holder of the breed standard, according to the Department of Presidential Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

«After extensive procedures, the FCI Standards Commission, in collaboration with the FCI Scientific Commission, recommended that the General Committee approve the breed. Congratulations! Now you have ten years of work ahead. This time is meant for data collection required by the FCI Scientific Commission, including various health checks, breed statistics and information on the registered pups,» said FCI President Tamas Jakkel, commenting on the decision of the General Committee.

In August 2023, the Union of Cynologists of Kazakhstan met all the requirements set by the FCI and became a full-fledged member, which allowed it to submit national breeds for recognition.

On July 1, 2023, a law to protect and preserve Kazakh dog breeds came into force in Kazakhstan. According to the document, the country will establish the National Center for Kazakh Dog Breeds to protect and preserve the Tazy and Tobet breeds. The organization will select dogs that most closely meet the breed standards, which will then be bred to produce purebred specimens.

In November 2023, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev presented two Tazy pups to President Emmanuel Macron of France as a gift during his visit to Astana. They were named Jules and Jeanne.

This March, the presidential press service reported that Tokayev has three pedigree Tazy dogs, Nauryz, Ronnie and Nancy.
