Burservice, a Russian oil servicing company and a former subsidiary of Halliburton, is preparing to enter the markets of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, according to Roman Zhdanov, the head of the company’s board.

«Speaking of offices abroad, we currently have one in Belarus, also providing remote consulting services to customers from Central Asia. This market is of great interest to us, and we plan to enter the markets of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan,» Zhdanov said in an interview with Interfax.

He also added that if the company’s business in Central Asia succeeds, Burservice will also explore opportunities to enter other foreign markets, for example, in Asia and the Pacific region.

Burservice, founded in 2000, is one of the largest Russian oilfield service companies. It delivers a wide range of drilling and developing services at various oil and gas deposits. In 2007, it became a part of the American Halliburton group, and in 2022 it was granted the rights to provide oilfield services for all Halliburton assets in Russia.

In September 2023, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev instructed the cabinet to take measures to promote domestic servicing enterprises abroad, as tens of thousands of employees in oilfield servicing would lose their jobs once the Tengiz expansion project is completed. He emphasized that Kazakhstani personnel can work in Qatar or Saudi Arabia, resolving social issues and bringing foreign currency to the treasury.

In August 2024, the Association of Oil Service Companies of Kazakhstan stated that 25 international oilfield servicing enterprises were operating in the country. The association estimated that these businesses have earned more than $50 billion over 30 years of work in Kazakhstan. Almas Kudaibergen, the association’s chairman, believes that these international companies have a «moral obligation» to Kazakhstan and must invite subcontractors and specialists from Kazakhstan to their international projects. As he noted, some arrangements with several service companies have already been achieved.
