Italian producer of turbines plans to localize production in Kazakhstan
Ansaldo Energia, an Italian producer of turbines for Thermal Power Plant (TTP) No. 3 in Almaty, is exploring the opportunity to establish local production in Kazakhstan. Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov has already discussed potential cooperation in energy and hydrocarbon processing with representatives of leading Italian companies to promote high-tech industries in Kazakhstan.
During a meeting with Fabrizio Fabbri, CEO and General Manager of Ansaldo Energia, the two sides discussed the possibility of localizing the production of some components of gas turbines in Kazakhstan. This move is expected to not only enhance the efficiency of the country’s power infrastructure but also create new supply chains in the power generation sector. Kazakhstan has already ordered two gas turbines for TTP No. 3 in Almaty.
Furthermore, the prime minister discussed a series of projects on the deep processing of hydrocarbons and the production of value-added goods with Alessandro Bernini, CEO of Maire Tecnimont. This industrial company is interested in producing polyethylene, butadiene and sustainable aviation fuel, as well as constructing a bobtail plant in Kazakhstan.
According to the prime minister, Kazakhstan needs such infrastructure projects to diversify its economy, emphasizing that the government is ready to support foreign investments at all stages of project implementation.
In 2023, Power Engineering, an international consultancy firm, reported that Ansaldo Energia was controlled by Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, an Italian state-owned investment holding (88%), and Shanghai Electric, an energy and industrial equipment producer from China (12%).
