Kazatomprom, a subsidiary of the state-owned fund Samruk-Kazyna, and the Jordanian state-owned Jordan Uranium Mining Company (JUMCO) may jointly commence uranium mining and export the resource, Samruk-Kazyna reported on its Telegram channel. On Feb. 19, official delegations from Kazakhstan and Jordan held a meeting in Amman that resulted in the signing of a memorandum of understanding.

«Kazatomprom, a portfolio company of the Samruk-Kazyna fund, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with JUMCO. The MoU outlines a study of opportunities for developing and implementing new technologies in uranium mining, as well as potential cooperation in uranium export and processing,» the Telegram post read.

The document, signed by Meirzhan Yussupov, CEO of Kazatomprom, and Mohammad Al-Shannag, general manager of JUMCO, outlines potential collaboration on joint uranium projects in Jordan. During the talks, the two sides discussed promising areas of bilateral cooperation, including the nuclear industry. Samruk-Kazyna CEO Nurlan Zhakupov and Jordanian Minister of Investment Mothanna Gharaibeh also attended the MoU signing ceremony.

The government of Jordan established JUMCO in 2013 to manage and develop the country’s uranium resources. In December 2024, Primeminister.kz reported that Kazatomprom and JUMCO agreed to collaborate in geological exploration and mineral extraction in Jordan, including uranium projects.

Earlier this week, Kazatomprom reported signing its first contract with Swiss Axpo Power AG to supply uranium to the country’s nuclear power plants. Additionally, Kazatomprom revealed plans to expand its uranium production to between 25,000 and 26,500 tons in 2025, representing a 7.4% to 13.9% increase from last year.
