President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has criticized public servants for pursuing excessive luxury and wealth, as reported by Gazeta.uz. He believes that those working in public agencies should lead a humble lifestyle.

The president emphasized that the fight against corruption should start by addressing its root causes: excessive luxury and wealth.

«Some top officials have become hostages to false values, seeking illegal enrichment instead of setting an example of a modest lifestyle,» Mirziyoyev said during an extended government meeting on combating corruption.

The president also stated that an anti-corruption policy should begin with carefully selecting professionals for public service. He stressed the need to improve recruitment and assessment procedures to ensure the integrity of government employees.

«The fight against corruption is a national task, something every true patriot should be concerned about. No one should stand aside. This is why we must promote the idea that corruption is unacceptable in all walks of life,» he said.

Earlier this week, Kursiv reported that Uzbekistan launched the Week of Respect for Women initiative.
