ChatGPT helps Almaty resident win traffic lawsuit

Kenzhebek Ismailov, a resident of Almaty, took a firm stand and filed a lawsuit against the city’s traffic police, arguing that he was illegally fined for a traffic violation. With the help of ChatGPT, he won the case, as he shared on his social media page on X.
«In December, I was issued an illegal fine. I paid it; it was about 5,800 tenge ($12) with a discount. After reviewing the video on the Qamqor.gov.kz website, I filed a complaint against the Almaty Police Department, but they rejected it. So, I sued them as a matter of principle. ChatGPT helped me draft the case,» Ismailov wrote.
According to him, the incident occurred at the intersection of Mustafin and Toraigyrov streets, where a truck broke down directly in front of his car, forcing him to maneuver around it. Other vehicles behind him made the same maneuver.
«The video evidence provided in the case showed that the violation was due to unavoidable circumstances. The vehicle in front of me suddenly stopped, creating a traffic obstruction. To prevent an accident and avoid blocking the road for other drivers, I had to go around it. Before and after me, nearly all drivers maneuvered around the broken-down truck,» he stated in his complaint.
Later, Ismailov reported that the judge ruled in his favor, determining that the traffic police had issued the fine unlawfully.
In early February, media outlets highlighted that OpenAI had made ChatGPT more accessible by removing the requirement to log in. Previously, users needed to register with a phone number, but in 2024, OpenAI eliminated that requirement, making the AI chatbot even easier to use.
