Kazakhstan launches the most powerful supercomputer in Central Asia

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev took part in the official launch ceremony of a new supercomputer at the Alemcloud National Supercomputer Center in Astana.
The installation and commissioning of the high-performance system, based on NVIDIA H200 graphics processors, took place at a new data center under the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry of Kazakhstan, in collaboration with foreign partners.
«The new supercomputer cluster has a capacity of up to 2 exaflops using the FP8 calculation method, making it the most powerful computing solution in Central Asia,» the Akorda reported.
According to President Tokayev, the project marks a significant step in Kazakhstan’s digital transformation. In particular, the supercomputer will provide powerful computing resources to startups developing neural network solutions, universities, research institutions, and both public and private sector entities.
As part of its digital ambitions, Kazakhstan is also developing modern data processing centers capable of supporting traffic connectivity and content storage. Key initiatives include the establishment of a East-West fiber-optic hyperhighway and the construction of a Tier III (or higher) data processing center to carry and store international traffic — a project currently being implemented by Freedom Telecom.
