Kazakhstan cuts production of LPG because of war in Ukraine

Over the period from January to March, Kazakhstan produced 714,000 tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), which is 12.9 percentage points less than the same period last year. According to Bolat Akchulakov, minister of energy in Kazakhstan, the current situation is the result of the war in Ukraine; Kazakhstan no longer has the opportunity to export LPG into Ukraine.

At the same time, Kazakhstan itself has consumed about 6.7 billion cubic meters of conditioned gas. 

«Because of the growing amount of natural gas consumed domestically, the volume of exported gas has reduced. Over the first quarter this year, we exported 1.4 billion cubic meters of gas, which is 33.3% less than the same period last year. The volume of LPG production is 12.9% less than last year. The only reason Tengizchevroil has reduced the volume of LPG production is the war in Ukraine,» said the official. The minister also noted that apart from Tengizchevroil all other LPG manufacturing sites are aimed at the domestic market, so they continue to work as usual.
