Digital Ministry of Kazakhstan welcomes new minister
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has appointed Zhaslan Madiyev, general manager of Binance Kazakhstan, as the new head of the Ministry of Digital Development, according to the Akorda. Ex-Digital Minister Bagdat Musin was removed from office on April 30.
«The president has appointed Zhaslan Madiyev as the new minister of digital development, innovations and aerospace industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan,» the president’s press service said in a statement.
Madiyev was born on June 13, 1983. He graduated from the Kazakh National University named after al Farabi with a degree in Global Economics and International Finances. He also studied at Columbia University, MIT and Sloan Business School, where he obtained an MBA.
Over his career he worked as director of the treasury department in Samruk Kazyna, deputy head of the Development Bank of Kazakhstan, deputy head of the National Bank where he supervised monetary operations and was responsible for managing assets, advisor to the prime minister, vice minister of national economy, deputy head of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms, as well as vice minister of digital development, innovations and aerospace industry.
Before being appointed as a minister, Madiyev served as a general manager of Binance Kazakhstan, the biggest cryptocurrency exchange in the country.
On April 30, the president of Kazakhstan removed Musin from office. However, the ex-minister later said that he asked the president for the resignation on his own. He had served as a minister for four years.
