Turkish Alarko allocates $150 million to build greenhouse park in Shymkent
Alarko, a Turkish group of companies, is going to allocate $150 million for the construction of a greenhouse park with a floor size of 200 hectares in Shymkent. The company is already preparing for building and assembling work, Kazakh Invest reported.
The project commissioning is scheduled for 2026. Investors expect that once the construction of the greenhouse complex is completed, it will have a capacity of 50,000 tons of tomatoes per year, providing jobs for 1,750 people.
«Our company has been operating in Kazakhstan for the past 32 years. Kazakhstan has everything necessary – massive territory and available export markets – to boost the development of the agricultural sector. We see what the country has done to protect investors. We have strong faith in the country and have already invested about $700 million in various projects throughout Kazakhstan,» said Abbas Şahin, the vice president of Alarko.
In 2023, Alarko was searching for land parcels in Taraz, Shymkent and the Turkestan region after signing a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan.
Even though agriculture and the food industry are new investment lines for Alarko, it is focusing its efforts on growing food with greenhouses, organic and mineral fertilizers, processing and selling products, and agricultural technologies. Over the last 33 years, Turkey has invested $2.8 billion in more than 70 projects.
