Alexey Kuzmichev, a Belarusian artist, tried to dig up Vincent van Gogh’s grave in France in a performance called «Renaissance.» Kursiv LifeStyle has watched the video of this «act of art.»

The legend of postimpressionism is buried at the municipal graveyard in French Auvers-sur-Oise. Kuzmichev arrived there in a white suit with his face painted white. At first, he appealed to a few tourists at the site.

«My dear friends. You’ve come here with sadness, I understand you. I also cannot stand living in a world where the artists are gone. But from now on, things will be different. Today is a significant day – the artist returns to the world. Congratulations to all of us on this great day!» he said.

Kuzmichev tried to «wake up» van Gogh with the help of an alarm clock and then started to dig the grave.

«Artist, it’s time to rise! Artist!» he shouted.

Kuzmichev failed to dig the grave for real and was stopped by a local guard.

Alexey Kuzmichev is the son of the repressed artist Alexey Kuzmichev Sr., also known as the «Belarusian Rafael.» Kuzmichev Jr. lives outside of Belarus because of a criminal case opened against him for his political performances at polling stations and during protests in the country in 2020.
