According to Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Healthcare Telegram channel, precautionary measures will be enhanced as the mpox virus spreads around the world. As of today, no mpox cases have been registered in the country.

«Enhanced safety measures are being introduced at health control points, including those at airports and border crossings. Travelers from mpox-affected countries receive special attention. Until today, no mpox cases in Kazakhstan have been registered,» the ministry explains.

The Ministry of Healthcare released a set of recommendations for Kazakhstanis who plan to visit countries where mpox cases have been reported:

  • Avoid encounters with wild animals and infected people. The virus transmits through contact with infected monkeys, rats and other animals.
  • Use personal protective equipment. Animal contact is only allowed when wearing protective clothes and gloves.
  • Maintain proper hygiene. Routine hand washing and sanitizer use help reduce the risk of infection.
  • If there is no urgent need to visit infected countries, postpone the trip.

Moreover, the agency advises citizens to immediately consult a physician if signs of mpox infection, such as lesions, fever and other associated symptoms, appear.

The Ministry of Healthcare highlighted that it is closely monitoring the epidemic situation and is ready to promptly react to any changes.

Last week, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared a global health emergency after a massive mpox outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The disease has already affected several neighboring countries in Africa, while Sweden reported the first case of mpox outside the region.
