David Degtyarev becomes first two-time Paralympic champion in Kazakhstan

Kazakhstani Para powerlifter David Degtyarev won a gold medal at the 2024 Paralympics in Paris, while Para shot putter Dastan Mukashbekov earned a bronze medal, Olympic.kz reported.

«Degtyarev has won his second Paralympic medal, having previously triumphed in Tokyo. He is the first Kazakhstani to win in the Paralympic Games twice,» Olympic.kz said.

Minister of Tourism and Sports Yerbol Myrzabosynov congratulated the athlete, saying that he was proud of him.

«Our athlete once again showed an unbending will, determination and champion attitude. At the Tokyo Paralympics, Degtyarev also won gold and we are very proud that he made it to the Olympian medal stand once again,» the minister said.

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has congratulated Degtyarev on his X (formerly known as Twitter) account. He wrote that the Para athlete «showed a brilliant result and unshakeable spirit.»

Dastan Mukashbekov finished third in the Para shot put (F36 category) with a 16-meter throw, earning a bronze medal.

By the end of the seventh day of the Paralympics, Kazakhstan earned one gold, one silver and one bronze medal.

The Paralympics in Paris has attracted the same amount of attention as the Olympics. The audience admires the determination and spirit of the athletes who perform and earn medals no matter what.
