Siemens to establish measuring and electric equipment production in Kazakhstan
The German conglomerate Siemens and the National Welfare Fund Samruk-Kazyna have signed a strategic agreement on the sidelines of the Kazakhstan-German Business Forum in Astana, the fund’s press office reported. The agreement was signed along with 35 other deals made with German companies.
«The agreement aims to gradually localize the production of measuring and electric equipment, as well as industrial automation systems in Kazakhstan,» Samruk-Kazyna said.
As part of the arrangement, a new joint venture will be established in Kazakhstan, providing the necessary equipment, materials and personnel training.
«The initiative we are announcing today at the signing ceremony relates to the local assembly, at the initial stage, and eventually to the partial production of Siemens’ measuring equipment in Kazakhstan. This project marks a major milestone in the economic and technological cooperation between Kazakhstan and Germany as it implies sharing significant know-how, boosting local potential and investing in energy-efficient and high-precision technologies,» said Patricia Neumann, Vice President for Eastern Europe and Central Asia at Siemens AG.
She also mentioned another agreement, one made with Silk Road Electronics, which operates a home appliance factory in Saran, in the Karaganda region. This agreement aims to establish a joint venture to produce equipment designed for automation and electrification of the metallurgical industry, as well as energy infrastructure. According to Neumann, the companies will sign a detailed roadmap outlining the further steps on the forum sidelines.
Siemens AG is a German conglomerate that operates in electronics, transportation, medical and lighting equipment. The company also provides specialized services across various industries, including transportation and communication.
In addition, the German logistics company Rhenus SE & Co. KG signed a memorandum of understanding with the Port of Aktau and Kazakhstan Railways on the forum sidelines. Under the agreement, a trimodal container terminal will be built by 2030.
«These investments will connect Kazakhstan with the Southern Caucasus, Turkey and terminal networks in Europe through the Caspian Sea. This option enables supply chain safety and supports the strategy of the EU shipping diversification,» explained Tobias Bartz, CEO of Rhenus SE & Co. KG.
In total, 36 documents worth more than $6.3 billion have been signed at the business forum, covering machine engineering, innovation, logistics, petrochemicals, healthcare, information technology and industrial automation. The forum coincided with the official visit of the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to Kazakhstan
