Kazakhstan manufactured roughly 81,000 vehicles worth $2.18 billion over the first eight months, which indicates a 17.1% decrease year-on-year, according to the Kazakhstan Automobile Union (KAU), citing the National Bureau of Statistics.
In August, Kazakhstan produced 10,700 vehicles with a total value of $292 million.
The majority of manufactured vehicles consisted of passenger cars, with over 72,700 units manufactured, which is a 17.8% decrease compared to the same period last year. Trucks were the next largest category, with over 5,300 units produced, marking a 12.3% decline. Buses, the third category, with 1,500 units produced, reported a 10.2% drop in production. Additionally, the sector’s output included 986 trailers and 313 units of other equipment.
Every automotive brand planning to start production in Kazakhstan after July 1, 2024, must introduce at least one model using Completely Knocked Down (CKD) technology. Already operating enterprises will do the same starting Jan. 1, 2026, said Anar Makasheva, CEO of KAU, citing the regulation of the Ministry of Industry and Construction.
Hyundai (25,000 vehicles), Kia (16,000 vehicles), Chevrolet (15,000 vehicles), Jac (8,000 vehicles) and Jetour (6,000 vehicles) are the most popular brands in Kazakhstan, including exported vehicles, according to KAU.
In terms of specific models, the highest production rates were reported for the Chevrolet Cobalt (13,000 vehicles), Hyundai Tucson (13,000), Kia Sportage (6,000), Hyundai Elantra (3,000), and Jetour X70 (3,000).
