Daniyar Ashimbayev, a Kazakhstani political analyst, has weighed in on a high-profile claim made by Alnur Mussayev, the former chairman of Kazakhstan’s National Security Committee (KNB), who alleged that the Soviet KGB recruited American businessman Donald Trump in the 1980s. According to Ashimbayev, the claim is yet another example of a «global show of absurdity» and raises more questions than it answers.

Mussayev, who is wanted for treason and currently resides in Europe, recently stated that Trump allegedly became an undercover agent while Mussayev was serving in the Sixth Directorate of the USSR’s KGB. However, Ashimbayev pointed out that Mussayev did not clarify whether he was personally involved in Trump’s alleged recruitment. He also noted that the Sixth Directorate was responsible for economic security, not recruiting foreign nationals.

«Mr. Mussayev did not specify whether he personally recruited the current American president or if it was done by one of his colleagues. However, arguing about it is pointless. The former general can always argue it was a secret part of his work,» Ashimbayev remarked sarcastically.

He noted that this is not the first time Mussayev has made sensational assertions. Previously, Mussayev accused former Kazakhstani Prime Minister Akezhan Kazhegeldin of working for the KGB, an allegation Kazhegeldin countered with an equally far-fetched story about his «secret business» and «party gold,» (referring to rumored billions that members of the former Soviet Communist Party allegedly moved overseas). According to Ashimbayev, such episodes resemble theatrical performances more than reality.

The analyst suggested that Mussayev’s latest claim may stem from a desire to stay relevant or could be influenced by outside forces.

«Apparently, Alnur Alzhaparovich (Mussayev’s patronymic name) decided to revive an old game to put himself back in the spotlight or perhaps he was encouraged by some of his European handlers,» he said, hinting at potential political motives.

Ashimbayev also warned that making such allegations against Donald Trump could have consequences, given Trump’s reputation for holding grudges. As the story continues to unfold, the analyst joked that he is now waiting to see if any former KGB operatives come forward with tales about Joseph Biden’s recruitment.
