Kazakhstan to boost oil transit via Azerbaijan

CEO of KazMunayGas (KMG) Askhat Khassenov held talks with President of the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) Rovshan Najaf during a visit to Baku. The two sides also shared their opinions on how the oil transit agreement via the Aktau–Baku–Ceyhan pipeline has been implemented since 2022.
In 2024, this pipeline transported 1.4 million tons of oil, while the transit volume for this year is set to increase to 1.7 million tons. According to KMG’s press service, this partnership strengthens the transit opportunities of both countries and streamlines the supply of Kazakhstani oil to global markets.
Another topic for discussion was last year’s environmental agreement, which aims to reduce emissions by introducing new technologies in the oil and gas industries.
The two sides also discussed joint exploration, production, investments and sector digitalization.
Earlier this week, Baku and Astana also agreed to construct a fiber-optic cable along the seabed of the Caspian Sea.
Various media outlets reported Kazakhstan’s oil export achievements, highlighting a 13% increase, which is a historic high.
