Tokayev outlines strategic cooperation areas with the EU

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held talks with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen during the first EU-Central Asia summit in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. At the meeting, Tokayev highlighted several areas where Kazakhstan has the potential for effective cooperation with EU countries, including energy and logistics, as reported by Akorda.kz.

«President Tokayev outlined at least four areas, where Kazakhstan has the potential to deepen its cooperation with Europe, including energy, major infrastructure and industrial projects, digital innovation and artificial intelligence,» the Akorda said on its website.

In turn, Von der Leyen emphasized that the EU is interested in cooperation in the transport and logistics sectors, particularly the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route. As a result, the two sides agreed to continue their work within the C5+EU dialogue platform to deepen Kazakhstan-EU cooperation.

President Tokayev arrived in Uzbekistan yesterday to participate in the summit and was warmly welcomed at the airport by the Uzbek prime minister.
