Kazakhstan restricts the use of AI for classified documents processing

Kazakhstan bans the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies when working with dissertations referring to classified information and in research related to children, according to Adlet Toibayev, chairman of the Committee for Quality Assurance in Science and Higher Education.
The official explained that the restriction applies only to specific cases when the information security and psychological conditions of minors are in question.
«The use of AI is not allowed when working with the materials marked ‘For Official Use’ and in psychological and pedagogical experiments involving children,» Toibayev stated.
But at the same time, the Ministry of Science does not oppose using AI in the academic environment. Recommendations for using AI are already in effect at universities and colleges. For instance, students and researchers are allowed to use AI for processing vast amounts of experimental data if they indicate where and how they used these technologies.
Toibayev added that teaching staff and students will be granted access to professional courses on working with AI.
«The revision of education programs and examination tasks is underway with consideration for the new challenges related to the active technological development,» Toibayev emphasized.
Last week, Kursiv.media reported that Kazakhstan is using AI to analyze Soviet geological information.
