Kazakhstani police arrest German fraudster wanted by Interpol

Kazakhstani police, in conjunction with their counterparts from Hamburg, Germany, have arrested a 58-year-old German citizen in Astana, who had been wanted by Interpol for large-scale fraud. The man was on the international wanted list after Hamburg authorities opened a criminal case against him. The suspect was apprehended during an operation called «Investigation,» as reported by Polisia.kz.

Furthermore, the operation led to the identification and detention of 284 people wanted for various crimes, including:

  • Seven for murder;
  • Nine for serious bodily assault;
  • Six for brigandage;
  • Five for robbery;
  • Thirteen for drug-related offenses.

Additionally, 32 suspects were located outside the country, and 164 others were detained at the request of other states.

Among the detainees is a 39-year-old Kazakhstani who was located in Bishkek, the capital city of Kyrgyzstan, after 13 years on the run from an investigation into a collective rape case. A man suspected of brigandage in 1996 was arrested in Grozny, Russia. Furthermore, two citizens of Uzbekistan were located in the Zhambyl region, one of whom is accused of murdering his wife, while the other faces charges of human trafficking.

In the course of the operation, 56 people previously reported missing, including 10 children, were found.

In a separate case, Kazakhstan’s Prosecutor General’s Office reached out to Russia’s space authorities for assistance with the high-profile Sherzat Bolat murder case, seeking help in locating the person responsible for setting the victim’s family home on fire. The purpose of the assistance request is to analyze satellite footage in order to streamline the investigation and criminal search.
