Canadian miner expresses interest in Kazakhstan’s mineral resources

Representatives of Silvercorp Metals Inc., a Canada-based mining company, held talks with officials in Astana to discuss cooperation prospects in the mining sector, according to Kazakh Invest’s press release.  

Silvercorp was represented by the company’s founder and CEO, Dr. Rui Feng (Ph.D., geology) and President Lon Shaver. On the Kazakhstani side, Azamat Kozhanov, deputy chairman of the board of Kazakh Invest, participated in the discussions.

Silvercorp expressed interest in geological exploration and developing deposits of precious and nonferrous metals in Kazakhstan, while also considering the possibility of establishing an office in the country.   

Kozhanov noted that Kazakhstan is interested in attracting international market players with technological expertise and is ready to support investors in identifying promising projects and ensuring their implementation.

The parties agreed to continue the dialogue and develop cooperation in sustainable subsoil management.

Silvercorp Metals is a publicly traded mining company with projects in China and Latin America. The company focuses on the production and processing of precious and nonferrous metals and applies digital solutions for industrial processes.

Earlier this month, Canadian Condor Energies announced the construction of methanol and liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants in Kazakhstan, scheduled to launch in 2027. The LNG facility is expected to be the first of its kind in Central Asia, according to the administration of the Mangystau region.
