Starting Aug. 13, Kazakhstanis can connect to Starlink internet. The company has officially launched its satellite internet service in the country, according to the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry.

The Starlink website lists the monthly fee for home internet starting at 23,000 tenge (approximately $43), but the company’s device is required for access. There are two options: standard and mini. The standard device is suitable for everyday home internet use, while the mini is designed for basic applications. The standard costs 201,000 tenge ($373) and the mini 104,000 tenge ($193). Delivery is promised within one to two weeks, with a shipping fee of 12,000 tenge ($22).

«Residents of the country can access high-speed, reliable internet through the network of low Earth orbit Starlink satellites owned by SpaceX,» the agency said in a statement.

The ministry added that Starlink technology ensures a stable connection even in the most remote areas, opening access to digital services for the population.

On June 12, SpaceX signed an agreement requiring it to comply with Kazakhstan’s legislation when providing satellite internet.

Notably, in December 2024, the Ministry of Digital Development proposed banning the import of devices from Starlink, Thuraya, Iridium and Inmarsat, citing threats to national security.

Starlink is a satellite-based internet system developed and operated by SpaceX — founded by Elon Musk — and is the world’s largest constellation of satellites in low Earth orbit. It is designed to provide high-speed broadband internet worldwide, especially in remote and rural areas, with low signal latency.

Meanwhile, on Aug. 5, satellite internet from another provider — China’s Shanghai SpaceSail — was tested in the Almaty region.
