Kazpost, the country’s national postal operator, has registered a new company at the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC).

According to Arman Batayev, the author of the Finmentor channel on Telegram, the company’s name — Qazpost-JD Tech Co. — may suggest a partnership with the Chinese marketplace JD.com, the second-largest e-commerce platform in China after Alibaba Group.

The CEO of the newly established company is Lei Sun, a citizen of China. Apart from Kazpost, there is another founder of the company – Technology Industry SILK ROAD, whose owners have not been disclosed.

In July, the postal operator stated that the parties had agreed to launch a Russian-language version of the JD.com marketplace and integrate it into the markets of Kazakhstan and other CIS member states.

At the time, Kazpost emphasized that, thanks to this cooperation, a major innovative marketplace from China was set to enter the Kazakhstani market. This would significantly expand opportunities for online shopping and improve the quality of service for Kazakhstanis.

Founded in 1998 and headquartered in Beijing, JD is one of the 50 largest companies in China by revenue.

Kursiv.media has submitted an inquiry to Kazpost for additional information.
