Number of electric vehicles in Kazakhstan reaches 19,100

The number of electric vehicles (EVs) in Kazakhstan continues to grow rapidly, though their overall share of the national car fleet remains small. According to Energyprom, as of early August 2025, 19,100 EVs were registered in the country, a 79% increase compared to a year earlier.
In the first seven months of 2025 alone, Kazakhstanis registered 6,900 new EVs, representing just 0.7% of all cars registered during that period. By comparison, gasoline-powered passenger cars accounted for 88% of the market, while diesel vehicles accounted for approximately 1.5%.
Where EVs are most common
Almaty leads the country in electric vehicle adoption, with 11,300 EVs — nearly 60% of Kazakhstan’s total — making up 1.6% of the city’s car fleet. In Astana, there are 2,200 EVs (0.5% of all vehicles), while the Almaty region has 1,200 (0.2%). Demand is lowest in the Abay and Ulytau regions, where only a few dozen EVs are registered.
Kazakhstan in the global context
Despite steady growth, Kazakhstan’s EV presence is still minimal by global standards, accounting for only 0.3% of the national vehicle fleet. For comparison, electric cars represented 14.5% of global new car sales in the first quarter of 2025. China remains the global leader, home to more than half of the world’s EVs.
