Alonso says Kairat deserves its place in the Champions League

Almaty’s Kairat suffered a devastating 5-0 defeat to Real Madrid on Sept. 30. The La Liga club’s coach Xabi Alonso recapped the game’s outcome.

Alonso stated that the club had come with the goal of winning, so he was satisfied with the result.

«We came here with the clear objective of winning the match. It’s the Champions League and we wanted to make a good start. We’ve got six out of six [points]… We scored five goals, achieved our objective and played well. The players have been committed and doing things well,» he said.

Alonso also praised forward Kylian Mbappé, who notched a hat-trick. According to him, the French footballer is in excellent shape.

«Mbappé is in a moment where he is decisive in every match… He scored a spectacular goal in the derby and we need him to flourish… He’s putting in the work and he can have a spectacular season,» Alonso noted.

Real Madrid’s coach also emphasized that Kairat deserves to play in the Champions League. The Spanish specialist wished the Almaty club all the best.

«They deserve to be in the Champions League. We had a fantastic reception and I wish them all the best. We came here to do what we came here to do, but from now on I wish them the best of luck,» he said.

On matchday three, Kairat will play against Cypriot Pafos FC on Oct. 21 in Almaty. Real Madrid will face Juventus at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium on Oct. 22.

On matchday one, Kairat lost 4-1 to Portuguese Sporting. Real Madrid, in a home game at the Santiago Bernabéu, defeated Marseille 2-1 with a brace from Mbappé.
