Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo has officially become the first footballer to reach billionaire status, according to Bloomberg. The latest Bloomberg Billionaires Index estimates his net worth at $1.4 billion, which includes sponsorship deals, club wages and commercial income.

The bulk of his wealth comes from club earnings. His transfer to Saudi Arabia’s Al-Nassr in 2023 brought him around $200 million in tax-free salary and bonuses, along with additional benefits such as a $30 million signing bonus, according to the agency’s calculations. In the summer of 2025, Ronaldo signed a new two-year contract with Al-Nassr worth more than $400 million.

Before his move to Saudi Arabia, between 2002 and 2023, Ronaldo earned over $550 million on the pitch. He also signed a 10-year deal with Nike, valued at nearly $18 million per year, and collaborated with brands such as Armani and Castrol, adding another $175 million to his fortune, according to Bloomberg.

Ronaldo’s net worth far exceeds that of other football stars. Argentina’s Lionel Messi is estimated to have a fortune of about $650 million, England’s David Beckham around $450 million, Brazil’s Neymar approximately $300 million and France’s Kylian Mbappé around $250 million.

Ronaldo began his professional career in 2002 at the age of 17. Over the course of his two-decade career, he has won numerous trophies, including five UEFA Champions League titles and the 2016 European Championship with Portugal. Widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, Ronaldo has no plans to retire.
