Jeju Air expands fleet with Boeing 737-8 aircraft

South Korea’s low-cost airline Jeju Air reported buying its seventh Boeing 737-8 jet, bringing its fleet to 43 passenger aircraft. The carrier also noted that it plans to take delivery of one more Boeing 737-8 before the end of 2025, Yonhap reported.
According to Chosun Biz, this purchase marks an increase in the carrier’s number of owned aircraft, rather than leased. Jeju Air now has 12 aircraft under ownership — five Boeing 737-800NG and seven Boeing 737-8 aircraft.
«The company is making efforts to establish the infrastructure for sustainable growth by securing price competitiveness and strengthening flight safety through fleet modernization,» Yonhap cited a press release as saying.
Previously, families of the victims of the Dec. 29, 2024, Jeju-operated flight from Bangkok to Muan County accident, sued Boeing, claiming the aircraft manufacturer was responsible for defects in landing equipment that ultimately led to the crash.
Separately, in September, victims of another Boeing-involved crash — Air India Flight 171 — filed a lawsuit against Boeing along with Honeywell, accusing the companies of negligence.
