Several people were injured in a stabbing attack on a London North Eastern Railway (LNER) train traveling from Doncaster to London King’s Cross on Saturday evening. Amid the chaos, passengers and staff acted with remarkable bravery, with one rail worker credited by police for saving multiple lives, the BBC reported.

British Transport Police (BTP) confirmed that a 32-year-old man from Peterborough remains in custody as the sole suspect. A knife was recovered at the scene, and officers said they are not treating the incident as terrorism-related.

Investigators said CCTV footage showed that an LNER staff member, now in life-threatening condition, intervened to stop the attacker and «undoubtedly saved many lives.»

Witnesses described scenes of chaos as passengers fled from the attacker, reportedly wielding a large kitchen knife. One passenger said people were trampled, while others gave blankets and first aid to the injured.

During the incident, the train’s driver, identified only as Mr. Johnson, diverted the train to a platform at Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire. This action allowed emergency services to board swiftly. Mr. Johnson was commended for his quick thinking, which a trade union official described as showing «real courage and professionalism.»

In September, a similar unprovoked knife attack occurred in Charlotte, North Carolina, when a mentally unstable person fatally stabbed a Ukrainian refugee.
