Doku helps Manchester City sweep Liverpool ahead of Kazakhstan clash

Manchester City winger Jérémy Doku stood out by scoring a goal against Liverpool in the Nov. 9 English Premier League match. On Nov. 15, the Belgian footballer will play for the national team against Kazakhstan in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Goals: Erling Haaland 29’, Nico González 45+3’, Jérémy Doku 63’

Norwegian forward Erling Haaland opened the scoring with a header. By the end of the first half, Spanish midfielder Nico González doubled Manchester City’s lead. In the 63rd minute, Doku sent the third ball into Liverpool’s net with a brilliant long-range strike.

After the game, the 23-year-old Belgian winger was named Player of the Match.

«[Doku] played an outstanding game. Outstanding,» Man City head coach Josep Guardiola commented on Doku’s performance.

This week, the Kazakhstan national team will face Belgium in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Rudi Garcia called up Doku for the upcoming national team matches, so the Manchester City winger will play in Astana. In the Brussels match, Doku stood out with a brace.

Doku’s Career

Jérémy Doku moved to Manchester City in the summer of 2023 from Rennes in a €60 million deal. He became English champion (2024) and won the FA Community Shield (2024). Over 16 matches in the season, the winger scored three goals and provided four assists.

Doku made his debut for the Belgian national team in September 2020. He has played in 37 matches, scoring five goals and providing 13 assists.
