Lamine Yamal to miss Spain’s upcoming matches against Georgia and Turkey

FC Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal will miss the upcoming matches for Spain’s national team against Georgia (Nov. 15) and Turkey (Nov. 18). The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has released the player from the squad due to a medical procedure carried out without the national team’s approval.
«The Medical Services of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) wish to express their surprise and concern upon learning, at 13:47 on Monday, 10 November — the day the national team’s official training camp began — that Lamine Yamal had undergone an invasive radiofrequency procedure earlier that same morning to treat discomfort in his pubic area,» the federation said in a statement.
According to RFEF, the procedure was carried out without notifying the national team’s medical staff, who were informed only late on Nov. 10 from the report. Following the doctor’s recommendation, Yamal needs seven to 10 days of rest.
«In light of this situation, and with the player’s health, safety, and well-being as the top priority, the Royal Spanish Football Federation has decided to release the player from the current squad. We remain hopeful for his positive recovery and wish him a swift and complete return to full fitness,» the federation noted.
Yamal’s absence in the upcoming matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers raises reasonable questions. Last week, the winger played two full matches — one against Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League and one against Celta in La Liga. In both matches, Yamal stood out by scoring and delivering great performances.
Yamal’s groin problems worsened in early September when he was playing for Spain’s national team. FC Barcelona manager Hansi Flick said the young player was forced to play on painkillers. Due to a recurrence of the injury, Yamal missed several matches and may require surgery.
Yamal’s Career

Yamal has played 11 matches this season, recording 12 goal contributions (six goals and six assists).
He made his debut for Spain’s national team two years ago. He won the UEFA European Championship in 2024 and became runner-up in the UEFA Nations League this year. The winger has played 23 matches for Spain, scoring six goals and providing 12 assists.
