‘Squid Game’ actor makes surprise appearance in Almaty

The star of the iconic South Korean series «Squid Game,» Anupam Tripathi, who portrayed one of the most memorable characters of the first season, has unexpectedly arrived in Almaty.

Tripathi played the role of Player No. 199 in the first season of the show. He posted a selfie outside the Kazakh-British Technical University (KBTU) and shared Stories showing the city’s streets. The South Korea-based Indian actor wrote in the caption: «Now in beautiful city Almaty, Kazakhstan.»

Social media immediately went abuzz, with users amused and joking that it has now become common to encounter famous actors in Almaty. Comment sections are filled with greetings and memes related to the show.

Tripathi gained fame with the role of one of the kindest and most tragic characters in the series. The actor portrayed a hard-working migrant who ended up in the deadly game due to difficult life circumstances. His character was remembered by viewers for his sincerity and trustworthiness, making him one of the audience’s favorites worldwide.

No official statement regarding the actor’s arrival in Kazakhstan has been released, but fans believe Tripathi could be in the city not only as a tourist, but possibly in connection with a new movie or project.
