The world’s largest «Ice and Snow World» theme park has opened in China’s northern province of Heilongjiang. This year, it surprised visitors by erecting a 23.8-meter-high snowman.
Approximately 5,000 cubic meters of snow were used to create «Mister Snowman,» whose height matches that of an eight-story building. The sculpture took four days of intense work to complete.
«The height was chosen deliberately, as the pronunciation of the numbers 2, 3 and 8 in Chinese can evoke a beautiful message meaning ‘love flying in all directions,’» the snowman creators noted.
A video of the snowman being built quickly went viral and spread across the internet.
The snow sculpture decorates the world’s largest «Ice and Snow World» theme park, which is part of the 27th Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival, opened on Dec. 17 in Harbin, in northeastern China.
This year, the park has set a record with an area of 1.2 million square meters, featuring 400,000 cubic meters of ice and snow. It includes three main landscape zones, a large-scale themed parade, an outdoor stage and a new 5,000-square-meter inflatable pavilion.
Tickets can be purchased in advance through the festival’s official WeChat account or via Meituan and Alipay. Between Dec. 17 and Dec. 23, a discounted rate of 298 yuan ($42) is in effect, after which the price will return to 328 yuan ($46).
