Kazakhstan’s billionaire class is dominated by the financial and natural resource sectors — a relatively rare combination for a single country.
The infographics below highlight Kazakhstan’s dollar billionaires and richest individuals by net worth, as ranked by Forbes. Both visuals were compiled by Nurasyl Abdrazakuly, a Kazakh data scientist and a frequent collaborator on our infographics.
Visualizing wealth and influence
Each individual in the «Richest people» visual is represented by a circle scaled to their estimated wealth, alongside the logo of their most recognizable company. While many of these figures control multiple businesses, the visualization focuses on the brand most commonly associated with each person to help readers connect names with familiar companies.

The result is a clearer picture of how wealth and influence are distributed across Kazakhstan’s key industries, including fintech, mining, retail and banking.
Kazakhstan’s dollar billionaires
Kazakhstan currently has six dollar billionaires. Each holds ownership stakes in at least one bank, underscoring the central role of finance in the country’s wealth structure. Five of the six are also involved in mining or control significant mineral deposits, reflecting the importance of natural resources to the national economy.

Post-Soviet fortunes
Notably, Kazakhstan’s billionaire fortunes were built in the post-Soviet era, with no inherited business empires. Most assets remain concentrated in Kazakhstan and neighboring countries, highlighting the domestic and regional focus of the country’s wealth accumulation.
