Hollywood star Matthew McConaughey has registered eight images of himself smiling, staring and talking with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
According to The Wall Street Journal, among the trademarks are short videos featuring McConaughey, pictures of his facial expressions and gestures, and the iconic phrase «Alright, alright, alright» from the movie «Dazed and Confused.» The actor’s lawyers said this was done to prevent his voice and pictures from being used to create deepfakes.
Given that there were no reports of McConaughey being a victim of AI abuse, the trademarks are largely a preventive measure amid the growing number of fake videos featuring celebrities.
To recall why the actor’s pictures and videos have spread online, Kursiv LifeStyle took a look at the most popular internet memes featuring the iconic actor.
«Alright, alright, alright»
This phrase from «Dazed and Confused» has become a universal response to everything from a successful deal to ironic agreement.
McConaughey in «True Detective»
Stills from the «True Detective» TV series have long been classics for commentary on life, the meaninglessness of existence and the feeling of being able to understand everything and not wanting to say anything. This meme appears online less frequently these days.

Another still from the same TV series pops up on social media a bit more frequently. It shows McConaughey with a dumbfounded look, smoking a cigarette. Users often add a hand holding a phone to the frame. The image is used to convey surprise or genuine shock.
The cult scene from «The Wolf of Wall Street»
The scene featuring Leonardo DiCaprio and McConaughey from «The Wolf of Wall Street» is one of those memes associated with ostentatious confidence, motivational speeches and the image of an «inner alpha.» At one time, salespeople would often refer to it after successful deals.
Sad McConaughey from «Interstellar»
Stills from «Interstellar» have long become memes about existential crises, deadlines and the feeling that time is running out too quickly.
They are used to convey regret over missed opportunities or the realization that much can’t be undone.
Earlier this month, U.S. President Donald Trump posted a fake screenshot from Wikipedia referring to him as the «acting president of Venezuela.»
