Kazakh MP criticizes national Olympic uniform

MP Murat Abenov has criticized Kazakhstan’s Olympic uniform after international media named Mongolia’s outfits among the best at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games.
«Why was Mongolia’s Olympic uniform named the best, while ours looks like it came from a flea market?» he wrote on social media.
Style and traditions
Mongolia appointed a young, talented designer — Munkhbayasgalan Delgerbat, a graduate of the prestigious Istituto Marangoni in Milan — to create the uniform. Through an open competition, she was selected and tasked with developing the design. The final result features a reinterpretation of traditional patterns, silhouettes and nomadic fabrics.
«This example proves that supporting young talent and working with national identity can become a powerful tool for developing the country’s cultural image,» Abenov said.
«Came from a flea market»
The MP said that Kazakhstan’s uniform was made «hastily and carelessly,» without an open competition or public discussion.
«They probably decided that the main thing was to make sure the flag logo wouldn’t peel off and the soles wouldn’t come off on stage,» he wrote.
The MP addressed the Minister of Tourism and Sports, Yerbol Myrzabossynov, on the matter. Abenov believes Kazakhstan has a rich history, strong aesthetic traditions, and talented individuals capable of creating world-class projects.
