Offenses will now also be monitored by police drones in Almaty. Kursiv LifeStyle explains why residents’ lives may start to resemble the trappings of a cyberpunk dystopia.

According to Polisia.kz, police drones have begun patrolling the city’s skies. In addition to recording violations, the drones are intended to remind residents of their responsibilities.

The devices are equipped with lights and loudspeakers. They patrol pedestrian zones, yards, and crowded areas. If a person litters, spits in a public area, behaves disorderly, or jaywalks, the drone immediately addresses the violator and reminds them that such actions are prohibited.

Serik Shumayev, Head of the Administrative Police Department of the Almaty Police, said that drones are a new method of preventing violations and help maintain order in the city.

He added that the devices allow coverage of distant areas and provide control over situations without deploying additional police personnel.

Several residents have already seen the drones in action, but such encounters now prompt surprise and smiles.
