
Renowned British designer John Galliano has officially announced his return to fashion, partnering not with a traditional luxury house but with Spanish retailer Zara, according to Vogue.
From haute couture to mass market
Galliano is known for his dramatic, theatrical approach to design and deep ties to high fashion. He led Dior for 15 years and, more recently, redefined runway presentations at Maison Margiela, turning them into immersive artistic performances. His departure from Margiela in 2024 marked the end of a notable era.

Now, his move to Zara signals an unexpected shift — bringing a «heavy luxury» sensibility into the mass market.
A historic collaboration
Industry observers are already comparing the partnership to the landmark 2004 collaboration between H&M and Karl Lagerfeld, which helped redefine designer collaborations for mainstream audiences.
More than a capsule collection
According to Zara, Galliano’s role will go far beyond designing a limited capsule. He has been tasked with reinterpreting the brand’s archives, experimenting with silhouettes, proportions and concepts that blur gender and seasonal boundaries.
Reports indicate the designer is currently working discreetly from a Paris atelier, developing early prototypes for the collection.
A partnership rooted in connection
Fashion insiders say the collaboration grew out of a personal connection. Galliano met Marta Ortega — head of Inditex, Zara’s parent company — at photography exhibitions. Their conversations reportedly sparked his interest in the scale and reach of the brand.
Launch set for fall 2026
The first collection is expected to arrive in stores in September 2026. The collaboration could help Zara move further into the premium segment and differentiate itself from ultra-low-cost competitors such as Shein.
