In February 2026, the mummified bodies of a woman and her father were discovered in the village of Maikaiyn, Pavlodar region. Authorities said the woman’s daughter and the man’s wife had been living in another part of the same house during that time.

Investigators are working to determine how long the bodies remained in the home and the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Criminal cases have been opened on charges of fraud and abuse of corpses. Forensic psychological and psychiatric evaluations have also been ordered.

According to police, both women have been placed in a specialized psychiatric hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. A minor child, following a medical examination, has been placed in a state-run institution in Ekibastuz.
